A Week in the Life of Moore Student Radio

With, BBC Radio 1’s Big Weekend, title parades and exclusive interviews, the team here at Moore Student Radio had a week to remember, here’s a little look into how it went!

The start of the fun was Tuesday, during the Moore Breakfast show, hosted by Jack, who had a vey exciting guest on his show. As Radio 1's Big Weekend was coming up, he managed to host an insightful interview with Dan Haggis, a band member from one of the festivals headlining acts - The Wombats. Haggis spoke openly on all things on the early days, touring as a band and being from Liverpool!

Wednesday morning started off on a sad, but celebratory note. Jack was joined by Tom on the breakfast show, which was the last show of the academic year on Moore Student Radio. But the evening would be a special one, six members of the team were invited down to BBC Radio 1's mobile studio. We had the once in a lifetime experience of meeting Greg James, and being shown around a functioning BBC radio studio, even getting to use the technology!

But that wasn’t all …. As Greg was showing us all the equipment, he ushered us to the screen, where a zoom call was being broadcast with none other than MILEY CYRUS. It turns out that Greg had a trick up his sleeve and wanted to surprise us all with the A-list pop star- which definitely worked, with Phoebe and Darcy breaking to tears! We were thrilled to make it on air on the BBC Radio 1 Breakfast Show with Greg James last Friday !

Thursday was all about making plans for the weekend, as we reminisced about what had happened the night before.

Friday was the first day of the Big Weekend and of course – we were there! The Wombats gave an energy filled set, it felt surreal watching our newfound friend Dan Haggis doing his thing! We then enjoyed phenomenal sets from Natasha Bedingfield, Biffy Clyro and the headlining Tom Grennan, to close off an incredible opening day.

Saturday was another chaotic one! We had the privilege of meeting and catching up with the fantastic Sam Macgregor from BBC Radio 1, who spoke to us glowingly about the festival and his love for student radio. We then enjoyed the incredible music from the likes of the Blossoms and of course our personal favourite Sam Fender!

Throughout the festival we ensured we were busy on our socials, keeping everybody up to date on our antics! Sunday was the perfect end to a special weekend, with the bangers provided from Tate McCrae and Mumford and Sons.

It was Bank Holiday Monday, and a big day for the whole city. It was no doubt a monumental occasion as the Premier League champions paraded their trophy through the City. We were thrilled to see the city turn red, with millions flocking to Liverpool for joyous celebrations. Unfortunately, due to the incident on Water Street, celebrations were cut short. Moore Student Radio fully supports those affected and wish a speedy recovery to those injured.

Wow what a week it was! A perfect way to end what has been a fantastic year for us. But we still have so far to go!

Anybody interested in joining our growing society, can do so by contacting us on social media or speaking to us at the Freshers Fair at the start of the first semester. See you in September for the start of another great year !
